This Week in AC Athletics: 9/10 - 9/17

It was a great turnout for our Athletics competitions this past weekend, #RooNation.  All of you came out to support our Football Team in their home opener, Volleyball in the Austin College Invitational, and Men’s & Women’s Soccer as they opened their SCAC Schedule.

We have four (4) Home Soccer games, one (1) Home Volleyball game, and a big SAA-Opening Home Football game to inform you about, so let’s get started recapping last weekend results in the AC Athletics Update!

Women’s Volleyball

Bring out the brooms, because the Kangaroo Women’s Volleyball Team swept their weekend slate of tournament matches.

The ‘Roos defeated Concordia (TX), Occidental, LeTourneau, & Louisiana College dropping only 3-sets this past weekend.

With SCAC Play officially opening tomorrow as new affiliate institution Johnson & Wales comes to town, make sure to pack the stands for the SCAC 8 in 8 piece that our conference is synchronizing with this contest.

Women’s Soccer

Lacing Up 4 Pediatric Cancer in their game against Southwestern University, the Kangaroo Women’s Soccer Team (1-3; 0-1 SCAC) will don gold laces on their cleats to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.

100% of all additional donations goes directly to Go4TheGoal’s programming, grants for hospitals, and financial assistance for families dealing with pediatric cancer.

Be sure to come out and watch our ‘Roos sport those shiny laces as they face the Pirates at 6:00PM.  Then on Sunday, come out as they continue SCAC Play in hosting the Bulldogs of Texas Lutheran University at 12:00PM.

With a 21-point first quarter en-route to a 34-12 victory, the Austin College Kangaroo Football Team is off to their best start in 7-years after a victory over Wayland Baptist this past weekend.

In hosting University of the South (Sewanee) this Saturday, the ‘Roos will officially play their first conference game as members of the Southern Athletic Association.  Take care of those Tigers, AC, and #RooNation will surely be there to cheer you on at 11:00AM!

Men’s & Women’s Cross Country

Program records and personal records fell at the OLLU Invitational as the Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams put forth a great effort in Windcrest, TX.

Hannah Richards ran her first ever 5K, breaking the school record by 32-seconds, and Matthew Gregory broke his personal 8K record by 1.7 seconds, good for 3rd in AC History.

This week we will be continuing our Hurricane ‘Roo-lief efforts on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

So far the efforts have been a tremendous success, with more than $800 raised through the selling of Austin College athletics jerseys. This Thursday members of our Student Athlete Advisory Council will be at the 7:00 p.m. volleyball match selling volleyball and basketball jerseys, and will then begin selling soccer, baseball, and softball jerseys at the start of the women’s soccer game at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

The Hurricane ‘Roo-lief efforts will wrap up on Saturday, when members of the SAAC will be selling football jerseys at the 11:00 a.m. home football game.

Jerseys have been selling fast, and sales will begin at the start of each match and continue until our supplies are gone, so we encourage you to get there early to donate $1 and get a jersey! Our goal is to hit $1,500 in total donations over our two weeks of relief efforts. We hope to see you there!

And as always, when out supporting the Roos in your new jersey as part of Hurricane ‘Roolief
