David Smith, Men's Tennis
David Smith has been honored as Austin College's male spring SCAC Character and Community recipient.
David Smith, a sophomore on the 'Roo men's tennis
team from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected as Austin College's
male spring SCAC Character & Community recipient.
While working on a dual-major in Business Administation and
French with a minor in Leadership, Smith has
been an active member of the Austin College community both as a
member of the men’s tennis team in addition to his
involvement in various organizations across campus, the Sherman
community as well as his home community of San Antonio and other
parts of Texas.
He is a member of Austin College’s Posey Leadership
Institute, where he has worked with children across Texas to teach
them the basics of leadership, as well as serving on committees
that determined which company received the Greater Dallas Business
Ethics Award. He has also helped select the Posey Leadership Award
given by Austin College each year. Through the Posey Leadership
Institute, Smith has worked with children at
Booker T. Washington school of performing arts and the Barack Obama
school of leadership.
Smith is also a member of the Student Assembly, and Chi
Tau Chi, a Christian service fraternity through which he has worked
both individually and as part of a group to set up service
projects.
He is also a resident assistant and is the vice president of
Austin College’s French Club.
Smith is a group leader in Austin College Activators,
which is a group of students led by the school’s Chaplin that
facilitates weekend retreats for elementary and high school
students.
He has also worked as a counselor at Laity Lodge Youth Camp
in Leaky, Texas, where he supervised campers and led them in
activities and discussions to help them improve physically,
mentally, and spiritually.
Additionally, Smith has served as a youth
intern at First Presbyterian Church in San Antonio, working with
middle and high school kids and helping to plan and lead mission
trips while also planning events and leading Sunday School
sessions.
