2013 Kangaroo Baseball Season Recap
The Austin College baseball team had an up and down season in 2013, finishing with an overall record of 12-29 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 7-12.
The Austin College baseball team had an up and down season in 2013, finishing with an overall record of 12-29 and a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference mark of 7-12. Four 'Roos were named All-SCAC for their efforts this year.
The 'Roos got off to a slow start this year, dropping 16 of their first 19 games, though one of those victories was over SCAC rival Trinity, which spent most of the season ranked in the top 10 nationally. The 'Roos did get a season sweep over conference foe Southwestern, including a 4-3 win in the SCAC Tournament first round before being eliminated from the championship with losses to Centenary and Dallas.
Austin Vaughan was a 1st Team All-SCAC selection after batting .319 and adding 19 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases, and Tyler Appelquist joined him as a 1st Team All-Conference selection after hitting .311 with four doubles and 12 RBI.
Travis Gibson was an Honorable Mention All-SCAC performer, batting .307 and finishing among the league leader with five triples, and Marshall Korn was another Honorable Mention selection after earning three victories with three complete games and an earned run average of 4.50 for the year. Korn also struck out a team-best 34 batters.
Also performing well at the plate this season was Colt Herron, who batted .280 with three homers and 21 runs batted in. Herron also earned three pitching victories. Mason Leech had five doubles and led the 'Roos with 30 runs batted in. Todd Takabuki batted .286 on the year, while freshman catcher CJ Adame hit .304, including going an incredible 6-for-6 in one game this season.
