Six From 'Roo Baseball Earn All-SCAC

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas – Austin College baseball players Brett Taff, Gus Daniel, Austin Dudley, Scott Gelbart, Chance Hatchel, and Josh Lewis have been selected as All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference performers, the league office has announced. 

Taff, a sophomore from Amarillo, was a first team All-SCAC pick at third base in his first season with the 'Roos after finishing the year third in the conference with five home runs, fourth with 13 stolen bases, fifth with a .567 slugging percentage, and seventh with a .367 batting average. Taff collected 44 hits with five doubles and two triples and also drove in 22 runs. 

Daniel, a senior from Sherman, was a second team All-SCAC selection at catcher after batting .263 with a homer, seven doubles, and 20 runs batted in. Daniel, who has now been an All-Conference pick three of his four years at Austin College, had 31 hits on the year and was fourth in the conference with nine runners caught stealing. 

Dudley, a junior from Granada Hills, California, was an honorable mention All-SCAC pick at shortstop after batting .333 with a .476 slugging percentage. Dudley was tied with Taff for fourth in the SCAC with 13 stolen bases, and also collected 42 hits, including eight doubles, two triples, and two home runs, while driving in 17 runs. 

Gelbart, a senior from Coto de Caza, California, was an honorable mention All-SCAC selection at first base after batting .286 with two home runs and a team-best 25 runs batted in. Gelbart had 38 hits on the year and was 14th in the SCAC with nine doubles this season. He also scored 27 runs on the year. 

Hatchel, a senior from Whitesboro, was an honorable mention All-SCAC pick at designated hitter after finishing the year tied with Taff for seventh in the conference with a .367 batting average. Hatchel had 36 hits, including four doubles, three triples, and a home run, and drove in 20 runs on the year. His .462 on-base percentage was also good for seventh in the SCAC.

Lewis, a senior from Rowlett, was selected as an honorable mention All-SCAC pitcher after finishing fourth in the conference with four victories and fifth with two complete games. He was named the SCAC Pitcher of the Week during the season, and finished the year ranked sixth in the conference with 51 strikeouts in 53.2 innings of work.
