The Austin College softball team dropped a pair of games against Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Trinity University on Friday, falling 4-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two. The 'Roos are now 3-19 overall this season with the two losses.
In game one the 'Roos were stymied offensively throughout the game, with Sophia and Briana Hernandez managing the only two hits of the game for Austin College. The 'Roos also committed six errors in the game, opening the door for three unearned runs.
Trinity got on the board with a pair of unearned runs in the first inning and added another unearned score in the third to go ahead 3-0, and managed to plate another in the fourth, and the 'Roos were unable to get anything going to cut into the 4-0 margin. Sophia Hernandez took the loss, allowing four runs, only one earned, in 7.0 innings of work.
In game two the Tigers again struck early, plating a run in the first to go ahead 1-0. Trinity would add two more in the top of the third to make it a 3-0 game, and that would be the end of the scoring despite the 'Roos loading the bases twice in the game. Austin College managed nine hits but was unable to drive home any runs.
Sam Matulis absorbed the loss, giving up three runs in 7.0 innings of work, while Jessica Baker went 2-for-4 with a double to lead the 'Roos offensively. Charlotte Trudell went 2-for-2 with a double of her own and Chelsea Delaney went 1-for-2.
The 'Roos will be looking to rebound tomorrow when they take on the Tigers in another doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Old Settlers Park.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
