'Roo Women's Tennis Performs Well at ITA Championships
Lizzie Flint and Sophie McDonald led a strong overall performance by the Austin College women's tennis team at the ITA Small College Championships in San Antonio over the weekend.
The Austin College women's tennis team had several strong performances at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Small College Championships in San Antonio over the weekend, with Lizzie Flint and Sophie McDonald leading the way with first round singles and doubles victories.
Flint took a 6-0, 6-2 victory in the first round before bowing out while McDonald defeated the tournament's No. 13-seed 6-3, 6-3. The duo also paired to take a first round victory over UT-Tyler by a score of 8-4 before falling to the top seeded and eventual champion team from Trinity University.
In addition to the strong performances from Flint and McDonald, Ashley Hellman, Jacqui Nickell and Meghan White all picked up victories in the consolation bracket over the weekend. Hellman took a 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 victory, Nickell won 6-4, 6-4 and White defeated the top seed from Howard Payne 6-3, 7-5.
This weekend the men's tennis team gets their shot in the ITA Small College Championships as the 'Roos travel to compete on the campus of UT-Tyler.
Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
