The AC Athletics Update, 10/5

Happy Fall Break, #RooNation.  While you are away enjoying a much deserved break near the halfway point of this semester, AC will be competing in Cross Country, Men’s Soccer, and Women’s Soccer, with Football the only competition at home in this first weekend of October.

Men’s Tennis closed out its Fall Season in historic fashion, Volleyball picked up a win over Arlington Baptist, and Water Polo competed in Houston against Texas A&M and Rice.  We’ll get to this and a lot more on this week’s installment of the AC Athletics Update!

Men’s Soccer

Our Kangaroos fought hard at home against a tough Trinity squad, but fell 4-1.  Two days later they picked up their 3rd SCAC victory of the season to move to 4-4-2 (3-4-1 SCAC) on the season after they defeated Schreiner 3-0.

AC will go on the road to Colorado this weekend, but video and live stats will be available for both games against Colorado College and Johnson & Wales on

Men’s & Women’s Cross-Country

The ‘Roo Runners are back in action this weekend on the campus of East Texas Baptist as part of the Tiger Invitational.  After a week off from competition, Austin College will kick off the final month of regular season events before the SCAC Championships in Kerrville, TX at the end of October.

      • Men’s 8K

A quick moment to recognize the Berry College Football Player Justus Edwards who was injured as a result of his participation in the game prior to Austin College facing Berry this weekend.  Our thoughts go out to Justus, his family, and the Berry College campus and athletics community alike in his recovery.

Berry defeated Austin College this weekend, as the Vikings rose to #14 in the most recent Poll; the highest ranking in school history.

Our Kangaroos will hope to bounce back this weekend at home against former SCAC and now SAA Rival Centre in Jerry Apple Stadium on Saturday, October 6th.  Kickoff set for 1:00PM

  • Saturday, October 6th, 2018
    • Home vs. Centre @ 1:00PM

Women’s Soccer

Women’s Soccer fought hard against both Trinity and Schreiner, but we unable to find wins in either contest.  AC travels to Colorado to face Johnson & Wales in a rematch from the 1-0 defeat the Kangaroos suffered on September 9th.

  • Sunday, October 7th, 2018
    • Away vs. Johnson & Wales @ 3:00PM Central

Women’s Volleyball

Kangaroo Volleyball has 3 wins in their last 6 contests against tough ASC, NCAA Division II, and NAIA opponents.  With a trip to Colorado Springs next weekend, and 4 SCAC opponents on the itinerary, our 11-9 (3-3) Women’s Volleyball Team will begin their final push towards the Conference Championships at the end of October.

Men’s Tennis

What a weekend it was for Men’s TennisKenneth Hardy & Siddharth Kortikere went on a magical run to the finals of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, defeating two All-Americans, two seeded teams, and a team that earned a victory over a regionally ranked duo from spring of 2018.

Josh Granberry became the first AC singles player to advance to the Round of 16, and the Kangaroos advanced more athletes into the round of 32 than ever before.  Calum Robe made the deepest run in the consolation bracket in program history, advancing to the finals, and the ‘Roos compiled a 8-4 record in doubles competition, their highest winning percentage in program history.

The fall will come to an end, but we will be anxiously awaiting the Fall National & Regional Rankings as Austin College should be included in both Men’s and Women’s selections.

Men’s Water Polo

The Austin College Men’s Water Polo Team travelled to Houston, TX and competed in a few exhibitions against Texas A&M and Rice this past weekend.  With a weekend off from competition, AC will turn their sights to next weekend when they head to the Washington D.C. area to take on George Washington and compete in the NCAA DIII Eastern Championships.

Football at home on Saturday, with everyone else on the road.  So make your way down to the Jerry Apple Stadium for a big SAA showdown to kick off the month of October.
