SHERMAN, Texas – Austin College football player Madison Ross has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team as one of the top NCAA Division III student-athletes in the nation for his combined performance on the field and in the classroom.
This is the second straight year that Ross, a senior from Fort Worth, has earned this distinction. Ross was also a first team All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference pick for the second straight season after leading the conference with 1,014 rushing yards, making him the first 'Roo in 15 years to surpass the 1,000 rushing yard plateau. He also led the SCAC with 11 rushing touchdowns, and was twice named the SCAC Player of the Week. He also earned honorable mention All-SCAC accolades this year as a punt returner, and was previously named the SCAC Newcomer of the Year as a freshman in 2012. Last year he was Austin College's Pete Cawthon Award winner, given annually to the top male student-athlete among all 'Roo athletics teams.
Ross, a business administration major with a 3.93 grade-point-average, is the lone SCAC football player to be named an Academic All-American this year, and is one of just two running backs to earn first team honors for all of Division III.
