Garriga Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week

SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's swimmer Sophie Garriga.

Garriga, a senior from San Antonio, has had a stellar career for the Austin College swimming and diving team in her four years in Sherman. Over that span she's captured two individual program records, setting new Austin College bests in the 200 butterfly and 400 individual medley while also being part of record setting relay teams in five events. On top of being highly successful in the pool, Garriga also serves as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and among her many community service projects in November helped organize a water drive that contributed more than 20 cases of bottled water to Grand Central Station in Sherman to provide drinking water for those in need. Early on in her time in Sherman, Garriga was recognized as a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character & Community Award recipient.
