Mercadel Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's basketball player Justice Mercadel.
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College Athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen Fraternal Financial Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's basketball player Justice Mercadel.
Mercadel, a junior guard from Little Elm, has helped the 'Roos open the year with a record of 3-2 while averaging 11.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.0 steals-per-game. For his career, Mercadel has scored more than 600 points and earned All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference recognition last season. During his time in Sherman, Mercadel has been one of the team's top performers and was named the Tim Jubela Award winner as the top male freshman student-athlete of the year in 2018. In addition to his success on the court, Mercadel is also a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, serving as one of Austin College's two representatives on the conference's SAAC. Through his work with the conference SAAC, he's also participated in national SAAC activities during his time at Austin College.
