Matthews Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's basketball player Brooklyn Matthews.
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo women's basketball player Brooklyn Matthews.
Matthews, a junior center from Conroe, has helped the 'Roos start the year strong with a 3-1 record while averaging just under a double-double, with 12.0 points and 9.5 rebounds-per-game. Matthews is currently ranked sixth in the conference in rebounding average, and is also sixth in field goal percentage with a clip of 57.9%. She's also averaging 2.0 assists and 2.0 blocks-per-game, along with 1.3 steals-per-game in the team's first four games of the year. Matthews has reached double-figures in scoring in all four games, with a high of 16 in the team's season-opening win at Hendrix, and had a season-high of 16 rebounds in a home win against LeTourneau.
