Murugan Named Modern Woodmen Student-Athlete of the Week
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's swimmer Kamil Murugan.
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College athletics is excited to announce the Modern Woodmen of America Student-Athlete of the Week, an award highlighting our great student-athletes on and off the field of play each week. This week's honoree is 'Roo men's swimmer Kamil Murugan.
Murugan, a sophomore from Dallas, had an outstanding performance at the team's double dual against Centenary College and McMurry, as the 'Roos wrapped up the regular season on January 18 in Shreveport. Murugan scored well both in individual events and relays, earning first place points in a pair of events while adding a second and third place finish. He took first in the 50 freestyle, touching with a time of 23.37, and helped the 'Roos to a first place finish in the 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Alex Lai, Colin Stewart, and Tim Smith to come in with a time of 3:29.49. He and Smith, Stewart, and Lai added a second place finish with a time of 1:45.13 in the 200 medley relay, and Murugan placed third in the 100 backstroke, coming in at 59.89 in the event.
