Hughes, a first-year swimmer from Dallas, had a big week at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship Meet. The highlight of the week for Hughes was a silver medal finish in the 200 butterfly, giving the 'Roos second place points with a time of 1:55.49 in the event. Hughes was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team that placed fifth, as well as the 400 medley relay team that earned fourth place points. Hughes also took part in a fourth place finish in the 200 free relay, and he also had an eighth place finish in the 100 butterfly. Other events in which Hughes helped the team earn points were the 800 free relay, where Austin College placed fourth, and the 200 medley relay, in which the 'Roos took fifth.
