Kelly McDaniel, a senior setter from Helotes, has been a standout both on and off the court as a member of the Kangaroo volleyball team. Over the past two seasons as the team's starting setter she has ranked among the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference leaders in assists, and was recently recognized by the conference as Austin College's fall representative for the Character and Community Award.
McDaniel earned that distinction through her work over the years with the Grayson Women's Crisis Center, where she worked to help raise awareness for domestic violence, and the Grayson County Animal Shelter. Additionally, over the summers McDaniel has given free private volleyball lessons, and as a member of the Omega Zeta sorority has helped to sponsor a child in Africa as well as raised money for the Ella Barker Memorial Fund, which remembers the daughter of the sorority's sponsor, a professor at Austin College. She has also participated in Lymphomathon, a 5k that raises money for Lymphoma research.
McDaniel has also served as the president of Austin College's Student Athlete Advisory Council, and this year is that organization's secretary.
