Rachel Ramos, Softball
Rachel Ramos is the Austin College female spring SCAC Character and Community Award.
Rachel Ramos, a junior outfielder on the 'Roos
softball team from Fort Worth, Texas, is the Austin College
female spring Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and
Community Award recipient.
Ramos has been an extremely active member of
the Austin College community since arriving on campus, including
being a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council in addition
to her multiple community service projects. She is a member of both
the softball and women’s cross country teams, and during her
time at Austin College has also been involved with the Path 4 Life
Student Center in Tom Bean, Texas, in which she mentored adolescent
youth and helped apply for grants to improve the
facility.
Ramos has also worked as a volunteer at the Preston
Retirement Home in Sherman, visiting with residents and also making
ornaments and playing bingo during the holiday season. She has also
worked with the Downtown Denison Project in Denison, Texas, helping
to create a marketing plan to recruit volunteers to the Downtown
Denison area, and creating a YouTube slideshow of various shops and
areas that needed volunteers.
In addition, Ramos has worked as a
volunteer for the Sherman Pitch, Hit, and Run organization, and as
a volunteer for the Waterloo Race in Denison. Rachel has also
participated in the YMCA Tour de Texas to promote healthy living,
has volunteered at the Sherman Soup Kitchen as well as the Sherman
Animal Shelter, and also volunteered with the Fort Worth Turkey
Trot. She is also a blood donor with Carter Blood Care in
Sherman.
