Emily Low, Softball
Emily Low has been selected as the SCAC Character and Community Student-Athlete of the Week for her outstanding off the field work.
Emily Low, a freshman softball player from League
City, has been an active member in the Austin College
community as well as in her home community and abroad. During her
time at Austin College she has become an active member of the
Student Athlete Advisory Council in addition to becoming a key
member of the Kangaroo softball team, where she has been a starter
throughout the season.
Before she ever began working out with the Kangaroo softball
team however, Low was already actively
involved with various Austin College community service projects. At
the beginning of this school year, she volunteered her time to help
package and send food to more than 16,000 needy individuals in
Honduras, and over Christmas break she teamed with the organization
Elves & More to build bicycles for deserving children. She also
helped to deliver these bikes to the kids for the
holiday.
She has also been an active participant in helping her head
coach Andrea Vangoss run the Austin College Softball Hitting Camp,
where she volunteers her time to instruct younger players new
drills and various ways to improve their games. In addition to her
work at Austin College both within the realm of softball and also
volunteering elsewhere, she has also worked with Toys for Tots,
where she helped to sort the toys for needy children, as well as
working as a bell ringer for donations to the Salvation Army during
the Holiday season. Low also worked with the
organization Christmas Angels, helping to provide gifts for
children who would otherwise not have had a Christmas, and has
worked with the Galveston Food Bank in various canned food drives
to bring food to hungry families.
