Sally Humphries, Women's Cross Country
Sally Humphries was honored as a SCAC Character and Community award winner by the conference office for her outstanding volunteer work and community service.
Sally Humphries, a junior from College Station, Texas
on the women's cross country team, has been selected the SCAC
Character & Community Female Student-Athlete-of-the-Week for
the week ending October 27, 2013.
Humphries has been an active member of the community both in
her hometown and in Sherman during her time at Austin College. She
is a member of the Omega Zeta sorority, and is also actively
involved in campus groups such as Students Today Alumni Tomorrow,
the Biology Interest Group, has served as a campus tour guide, and
is a member of the Austin College ACtivators, a group of students
who plan and lead Presbyterian Church youth ministry
events.
She is also a Youth Director at Grand Avenue Presbyterian
Church, and is a student leader for Austin College
Communication/Inquiry classes this fall, serving as a mentor to
fellow students on campus. In addition to her work on campus, she
has also participated in multiple volunteer roles throughout the
community, including working with the ACES after school program in
the Sherman independent school district, and has also worked as a
volunteer with the Pottsboro, Texas fire department.
Through her work with the Omega Zeta sorority, Humphries has
also worked on numerous service projects, and has volunteered with
the Salvation Army. This semester, she is also volunteering with
the organization Go Out For A Run, an after school program
encouraging children to get and stay active in a positive
setting.
