Sophomore Sophia Hernandez made history by throwing the first perfect game in 'Roo softball history in a 15-0 win over Rust.
Sophia Hernandez, a sophomore pitcher from Irving, made Austin College history by throwing the first perfect game in Kangaroo softball history on March 12 in a 15-0 win over Rust College.
Hernandez faced 15 batters in the game, striking out an incredible 14. Those 14 strikeouts also established a new single game Austin College softball record, and marked the first time in the program's history that a pitcher has notched double-digit strikeouts.
So far this season, Hernandez has been named both the SCAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week, and leads the conference with 22 runs batted in and is fourth among SCAC pitchers with 35 strikeouts. Her five pitching victories are also second in the conference, while her 2.95 earned-run-average is good for fifth. She is also tied for the SCAC lead with three home runs this season.
