KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College baseball team split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Schreiner University on Friday, dropping the opening contest 12-0 before rallying for an 8-5 victory in 10 innings to close out the afternoon.

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Austin College baseball team split a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Schreiner University on Friday, dropping the opening contest 12-0 before rallying for an 8-5 victory in 10 innings to close out the afternoon.
In the second game of the day, the 'Roos used a three-run 10th inning to secure the split. Ryder Norton scored the go-ahead run on a Tripp Thoms RBI single to left field, and Caleb Staggs followed with a two-run single to right to provide breathing room. Cade Rabal earned the victory, throwing 5.2 innings of effective relief while allowing just one run and striking out five.
Austin College initially took a lead in the fourth inning when Jayden Ayala-Hinojosa and Cayd Miller both drove in runs. After Schreiner fought back to tie the game, the 'Roos regained the lead in the seventh behind a sacrifice fly from Keaton Bradshaw and a run scored on a wild pitch. Schreiner forced extra innings in the bottom of the sixth when Shawn Rivera hit a run-scoring single.
Staggs finished game two with two RBI, while Miller and Jaxyn Rogers each collected two hits. Schreiner was led offensively by Daniel Rodriguez and Blake Juarez, who both recorded two hits and an RBI in the loss.
The first game of the twinbill belonged to the Mountaineers, as they held Austin College to just three hits in a shutout performance. Tanner Beck earned the win for Schreiner, throwing five scoreless innings before Max Sauceda finished the final two frames.
The Mountaineers' offense was powered by Jack Unberhagen, who went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI. Kale Lackey added three hits, including a triple and two doubles, while driving in two. Rivera also contributed three RBI for the hosts.
The 'Roos struggled to find a rhythm at the plate in the opener, receiving hits from Kaden Stegent, Rogers, and Ayala-Hinojosa. Jonas CeBallos took the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and striking out two.
