'Roo Football Sweeps SCAC Weekly Awards
SUWANEE, Ga. - Following a dominant win over Centenary College last Saturday, Austin College football players Jaylon Talton, Pablo Cantu, and Kellen Vickery have swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards as Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.
SUWANEE, Ga. - Following a dominant win over Centenary College last Saturday, Austin College football players Jaylon Talton, Pablo Cantu, and Kellen Vickery have swept the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards as Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively.
Talton, a junior quarterback from Arlington, huge game in the 'Roos dominating win over Centenary, completing 22-of-30 pass attempts for 303 yards with three touchdowns while adding 59 rushing yards and another score in a 41-15 victory. Talton did most of his damage in the first three quarters as Austin College built a big lead, and helped the team run out the clock in the fourth to secure the win.
Cantu, a senior linebacker from Kingwood, was a key part of an outstanding defensive effort on Saturday, totaling 11 tackles including eight solo stops against the Gents. The 'Roos held Centenary to a pair of touchdowns in a 41-15 victory and Cantu continues to lead the SCAC with an average of 11.0 tackles-per-game.
Vickery, a senior punter from Dripping Springs, only had to punt three times in a dominating 41-15 win over Centenary, but he made the most of it with an average of 47.0 yards-per-punt with a long of 69 yards. This is Vickery's second Special Teams Player of the Week honor this season after taking the award in Week 1.
