MARSHALL, Texas - The Austin College men's soccer team dropped a last-minute heartbreaker at East Texas Baptist on Thursday, falling 3-2 in the non-conference match when the Tigers tallied with less than two minutes on the clock. The 'Roos are now 1-2-1 overall on the year.
Austin College controlled much of the action in the opening half, holding an 8-2 edge in shots but neither team was able to break through in the scoriing column, heading into halftime scoreless. East Texas Baptist found the back of the net to make it 1-0 in the 54th minute, when Junior Lopez tallied, but Austin College wasted little time evening things up with a goal from Richard Perez on a corner kick three minutes later.
ETBU was even quicker to respond, going on top 2-1 just 1:26 after the goal by Perez, but the 'Roos managed to level things in the 71st minute on a goal by Daylan Lowe, assisted by Justin Ajdukovich. However, just as it appeared the game would end in a draw, Lopez scored his second goal for the Tigers at the 88:14 mark, and Austin College couldn't find the equalizer in the game's closing moments.
Austin College finished the game with a 17-11 edge in shot attempts, putting seven on target compared to six for ETBU. Jayson Baldwin made three saves in goal for the 'Roos, while Ryan Lord made a pair of stops for the Tigers.
