McMurry Edges Austin College Softball
ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College softball team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against McMurry University on Saturday at Edwards Field. With the loss, the 'Roos are now 7-20 overall and 5-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
ABILENE, Texas - The Austin College softball team suffered a narrow 2-1 defeat against McMurry University on Saturday at Edwards Field. With the loss, the 'Roos are now 7-20 overall and 5-18 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
Lauren Trott provided the offensive highlight for Austin College, launching a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game. Trott also went the distance in the circle, taking the hard-luck loss after giving up just one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts over six innings. Tori Fowler and Deana Martinez collected the only other hits for the team.
McMurry struck first in the opening inning when Reaghan Staehely hit an RBI single to bring home Taylor McCurdy. Following Trott's game-tying home run, the contest remained deadlocked until the bottom of the sixth. Samantha Gonzalez delivered what proved to be the game-winner for McMurry, hitting an RBI single to score Staehely, who had reached on an error earlier in the inning. Nyema Muhammad earned the complete-game victory for McMurry, striking out 11 batters and allowing just one run on three hits across seven innings.
