SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College softball team secured a doubleheader sweep over Hendrix College on Saturday, taking the first game 4-3 and shutting out the visitors 2-0 in the second contest. Lauren Trott tossed just the second no-hitter since 'Roo softball returned as a varsity program in 2007 in game two, helping secure the series sweep to finish the year.
The 'Roos trailed 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning of the opening game but rallied for three runs to secure the win. Hendrix struck first with a run in the opening frame on a sacrifice fly by Rylee Harris to score Bell Jaramillo. Austin College tied things up in the second inning when Zoey Harrell singled to bring home Jillian Kelly.
In the fifth inning, Kaycee Schoen drove in a pair of runs for Hendrix with a single, giving the visitors a 3-1 advantage. The 'Roos responded with a surge in the sixth. Piper Lindlau recorded a run-scoring single to bring Trott home, and Harrell followed with another run-scoring single to bring in Tessa Contreras. Kelly then crossed the plate on a wild pitch to put Austin College ahead for good.
Harrell led Austin College on offense, going 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, and also earned the complete-game victory while striking out three. Contreras added two hits, including a double. Schoen paced Hendrix with two hits and two runs batted in, while Gianna Robinson took the loss after allowing four runs over 5.1 innings.
Trott delivered a spectacular performance in the second matchup, tossing a no-no to lead the 'Roos to a 2-0 victory. Trott navigated seven innings, allowing just two walks while striking out two. She also led the team at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, and one run batted in, coming up just a home run shy of hitting for the cycle to celebrate her Senior Day in style.
Trott opened the scoring in the third inning with a triple that brought Tori Fowler home, and in the fifth inning, Contreras doubled to score Trott, extending the lead to 2-0. That would prove to be all the cushion the senior from Aubrey needed to secure the win in her final collegiate appearance. Emma Salis took the loss for Hendrix, allowing two runs on five hits across six innings.
