'Roo Women Cruise Past Colorado College

SHERMAN, Texas – Five players reached double figures in the scoring column for the Austin College women's basketball team as the 'Roos cruised past visiting Colorado College 67-48 on Friday evening in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos improve to 9-11 overall and 4-6 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play with the victory.

Austin College got out to a slow start as Colorado College built an early 6-0 lead, and the 'Roos weren't able to get on the scoreboard until a Kali Vittallo three pointer with 15:25 on the clock. Vittallo scored five more points and Erin Riley hit a three to help Austin College take the lead, and back to back buckets from Chrissy Ray and a basket by Kendall Heitmeier completed a 16-2 run to give the 'Roos a 21-10 advantage with 7:18 left in the opening half.

Heitmeier scored five quick points to help push the lead to 27-14, and after the Tigers trimmed it to a 10 point game at 29-19, the 'Roos got baskets from Brianna Harvey and Vittalo and a free throw from Riley to head into halftime leading 34-23.

The 'Roos opened the second half with a 6-2 run to build the lead to 15, and Tigers were unable to get the margin back to single digits the rest of the way. The lead grew to 20 at 59-39 on a three pointer from Christina Kime with 6:07 left to play, and after Colorado College used a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 13, Riley buried a three and added a layup to push it back to a 64-46 game with 2:35 on the clock. Meghan Lewis and Harvey would add free throws down the stretch to make it a 67-48 final score.

Heitmeier hit 7-of-12 shots to finish with 15 points to pace Austin College, and Vittallo added 12. Riley hit 2-of-4 threes to finish with 11 points and added six rebounds and four assists, and Ray and Harvey each chipped in with 10 points. Kime handed out eight assists in the victory.

Danielle Davis was the lone Tiger to reach double figures, scoring 14 points and grabbing seven rebounds in the loss. Courtney Tyus chipped in nine points, seven rebounds, and three assists.
