'Roo Women's Hoops Locks Up SCAC Blue Division Title
CONWAY, Ark. – The Austin College women’s basketball team erupted for 28 points in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 70-59 road victory over Hendrix College on Friday night. The 'Roos utilized a balanced scoring attack and a strong presence on the boards to secure the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win and lock up the SCAC Blue Division title.

The 'Roos utilized a balanced scoring attack and a strong presence on the boards to secure the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win and lock up the SCAC Blue Division title.
Brooklyn Matthews led the way for Austin College, posting a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while nearly reaching a triple-double with a game-high nine assists. Maya Dodson provided a major lift off the bench, hitting 4-of-7 attempts from beyond the arc to finish with 14 points and seven rebounds. Trinity Williams and Avory Miller each added 12 points, with Miller also grabbing 11 rebounds for a double-double. Lexi Martin rounded out the double-digit scorers for the 'Roos with 11 points.
Hendrix (14-9, 10-5) was led by Riley Brady, who scored 15 points with 16 rebounds, and Chloey-Rei Brown also reached double figures for the Warriors with 12 points and six assists. Natalie Edmonson chipped in 10 points for Hendrix, as Austin College limited the Warriors to just 26.2% shooting from the field and 6-of-23 from beyond the arc. Austin College wrapped up the game knocking down 39% from the field and 8-of-25 from deep.
The game was a defensive battle through the first three periods, with Austin College holding a slim 42-39 advantage entering the final quarter. Austin College scored the first four points of the frame to push it to a 46-39 game, and after Hendrix trimmed the deficit to four with seven minutes left, Dodson and Williams connected on threes to push it to a 53-46 game and the margin never dipped below five points the rest of the way.
With the victory, Austin College improves to 14-10 overall and 11-4 in SCAC play. The 'Roos return to action on Saturday at Ozarks as they conclude the regular season. By virtue of locking up the division crown, the 'Roos will have a first round bye in next week's conference tournament.
