SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker on Sunday afternoon in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match against visiting Concordia-Texas, as the Tornados scored twice in the final 20 minutes and what appeared to be a last second equalizer for the 'Roos was waved off due to an offsides call. The 'Roos are now 3-3-1 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
The game was scoreless for more than 30 minutes to open the game before CTX broke through in the 33rd minute, as Karis Hickey scored on a free kick to make it a 1-0 game. That remained the score until less than a minute remained in the opening half, when Natalia Quiros tallied for the first time in her career at the 44:28 mark to even the score heading into the break.
An own goal by Concordia put Austin College on top 2-1 just four and a half minutes into the second half, and the 'Roos maintained that lead until the 70:00 mark, when the Tornados earned a penalty kick and Avery Walker put her attempt into the back of the net to square things up. Concordia took the lead seven and a half minutes later on a goal by Tatum Winn to make it 3-2, but with time winding down, Myles McGaha chipped a ball over CTX keeper Ikea Roberts with four seconds left for what seemed to be a game-tying score, but after a quick conference between the officials, the tally was waved off due to McGaha being ruled offsides on the play.
Concordia finished the evenly-matched game with a 17-15 shot advantage, including 7-5 in shots on goal. Roberts made three saves for the Tornados, while Amanda Zyla had four stops for Austin College.
