SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College women's soccer team led most of the way against visiting St. Thomas, but a late goal by the Celts evened things up and the game would end in a 1-1 draw on Friday evening in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The 'Roos are now 4-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference action.
The game was scoreless through most of the first half, with defense being the name of the game as neither team managed more than four shots in the half. Austin College only took three first half shots, but made the most of them with a goal by Hannah Oberbeck off of an assist from Natalia Quiros at the 41:00 mark to send the 'Roos into halftime leading 1-0. That remained the score through the first 37 minutes of the second half, but St. Thomas leveled things with just under eight minutes to play on a tally by Asanah Gordon, and neither team could find the back of the net one more time in the closing moments of action.
St. Thomas finished the game with a 12-10 edge in shot attempts, including putting four on target compared to six for the 'Roos. Kieran McFarland made three saves in the net for Austin College, and Kylie Soich had five stops for the Celts. Austin College heads out on the road for another SCAC match on Sunday, as the 'Roos head to Shreveport to take on Centenary College.
