Men's and Women's Tennis Drop Season Opener

TEXARKANA, Texas - The Austin College men's and women's tennis teams fell in their season opening matches at Texas A&M-Texarkana on Friday afternoon, as the 'Roo men dropped a 6-1 decision while the women fell 7-0.
In women's doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Olivia Sanchez and Emma Davidson and the No. 2 pair of Ashlyn Alexander and Lauren Hofeldt were both held scoreless in 6-0 defeats. At the No. 3 position, Lauren Walker and Parker Cesarz managed to take one set but ultimately fell 6-1.
The momentum stayed with the Eagles throughout singles competition. At the top of the order, Sanchez was defeated 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Alexander, Walker, Garza, and Rylee Burns were each defeated by scores of 6-0, 6-0 playing on lines two through five, respectively, and Cesarz was bested 6-1, 6-0 playing on line six.
On the men's side, the Eagles once again took all three doubles matches to earn a point heading into singles competition. Cameron McIver and Timothy Wallace were topped 6-1 playing No. 1 doubles, while Patrick Fenner and Wyatt Fischer took two points but ultimately came up short 6-2 on line two. Jace Warner and Cruz Rocha rounded out doubles action playing No. 3, dropping their match 6-1.
Warner picked up Austin College's lone match point in singles play, battling his way to a 1-6, 6-7 (8-6) victory at No. 6, but McIver and Fischer each lost 6-1, 6-1 on lines one and four, respectively, and Joel Colunga and Fenner dropped 6-0, 6-0 matches on lines two and three. Wallace competed at No. 5 for the 'Roos, earning a pair of points in the second set but coming up short by scores of 6-0, 6-2.
Austin College will look to bounce back on Saturday when they head to Marshall to take on East Texas Baptist University.
