'Roo Volleyball Picked Fourth in SCAC Preseason Poll

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Austin College volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference in voting by the conference's head coaches, the league office has announced. The 'Roos finished sixth in the standings a year ago with an overall record of 16-18 and a conference mark of 7-9.

The 'Roos will be looking to replace multiple starters as they head into the 2019 season, but head coach Ed Garza's team features a strong group of returning players bolstered by an experienced and talented group of sophomores stepping into bigger roles this year. The 'Roos have seven players coming back who appeared in at least 30 matches last season, led by senior outside hitter Brooke Harris and junior outside hitter Hannah Arbaugh. Sophomores Brooklyn Talley, Christine Royalty, and Mari Prazak all started as freshmen last year and made immediate impacts, leading the 'Roos in assists, blocks, and digs, respectively. 

Austin College also returns sophomore right side Shelbi Cook, who appeared in 33 matches last season, as well as Karson Dykes, Caitlin Mahoney, and Bri Williams. Garza's team also features a strong group of first year players, with six freshmen joining the mix. The 'Roos open up the 2019 season on Friday and Saturday, when they host the Austin College Classic. The tournament begins at 12:00 p.m., with the 'Roos first taking the court against East Texas Baptist on Friday at 4:00 p.m.
