Austin College Falls in Five at Hendrix
CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College volleyball team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the road at Hendrix College on Saturday, falling in a tough five-set match against the Warriors. The 'Roos are now 6-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
CONWAY, Ark. - The Austin College volleyball team opened up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on the road at Hendrix College on Saturday, falling in a tough five-set match against the Warriors. The 'Roos are now 6-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The 'Roos got out to a hot start, taking the opening set 25-20, but Hendrix took the next two by scores of 25-20 and 25-16. Austin College forced a fifth set by coming away with a 25-16 decision in the fourth, but the Warriors clinched the victory with a 15-12 fifth set win. It was an even match across the board, with Austin College hitting .181 as a team while Hendrix was .177 in attacking percentage. The 'Roos had 11 service aces as a team, but 13 service errors as well, compared to just five for Hendrix.
Selah Coleman paced Austin College offensively with 12 kills and Samantha Graham added 10. Coleman also had 13 digs and two assists. Victoria Larson chipped in eight kills, while Madison Manning had 22 assists and 14 digs. Katie Riemer added 15 assists, and Laynie Kovacs led the 'Roo defense with 34 digs in defeat.
