Garza Earns 700th Austin College Victory
HOUSTON, Texas - Austin College volleyball head coach Ed Garza reached a big milestone on Sunday as the 'Roos went 1-1 on the day, with the team's 3-0 win over McMurry getting Garza to the 700 win plateau in his career on the sidelines in Sherman. The 'Roos dropped their earlier match in the day to St. Thomas, bringing their record to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

HOUSTON, Texas - Austin College volleyball head coach Ed Garza reached a big milestone on Sunday as the 'Roos went 1-1 on the day, with the team's 3-0 win over McMurry getting Garza to the 700 win plateau in his career on the sidelines in Sherman. The 'Roos dropped their earlier match in the day to St. Thomas, bringing their record to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play.
In the team's first match of the day against host school St. Thomas, the Celts handed the 'Roos a 3-0 loss by scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-22, as Austin College hit just .178 as a team compared to a blistering .367 for St. Thomas. Selah Coleman led Austin College with 14 kills and a .268 hitting percentage, and Rachel Sadler added seven kills. Madison Manning posted 13 assists and 11 digs and Katie Riemer added 11 assists, while Laynie Kovacs paced the 'Roos with 18 digs and added six assists.
The 'Roos bounced back in their final match of the weekend, however, helping Garza notch his 700th victory behind scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 over the War Hawks. Austin College hit .252 as a team in the win, while McMurry struggled to a .099 attacking percentage.
Coleman had her second 14 kill match of the day to pace Austin College, adding a .393 hitting percentage, and Sadler had eight kills while hitting .467 in the win. Madisin Hartsfield and Samantha Graham each had six kills, and Manning once again led the way with 14 assists. Riemer added 10 assists, and Kovacs had 15 digs to lead the 'Roos defensively.
