Austin College Drops Non-Conference Match to UMHB
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday evening to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling 3-1 to the Crusaders in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 15-8 overall on the season with the loss.
SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College volleyball team stepped out of conference play on Tuesday evening to take on the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, falling 3-1 to the Crusaders in Hughey Gym. The 'Roos are now 15-8 overall on the season with the loss.
The opening two sets started out even before the Crusaders pulled away for wins of 25-16 and 25-18, but Austin College came roaring back in the third set with a dominating 25-13 victory to force a fourth frame. That set ended up playing out much like the first two, with the Cru ultimately pulling away for a 25-19 match clincher, as UMHB hit a blistering .586 as a team in the fourth to hand the 'Roos the loss.
Austin College finished the match hitting .216 overall while UMHB posted a mark of .311 on their way to the win. Selah Coleman had a team-high 12 kills for Austin College and Rachel Sadler added 11 with 10 digs, hitting .269 in the match, and Madisin Hartsfield boasted a .421 hitting percentage with nine kills and four block assists. Laynie Kovacs tied for the match-high with 23 digs, and Madison Manning posted a team-high 23 assists while Katie Riemer had 17 for Austin College. Samantha Graham chipped in seven kills and Ivy Walsh added five in the loss.
