MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Austin College men's soccer team got a late goal from Cesar Escobar on Friday, lifting the 'Roos to a 3-2 victory over Hendrix College in a neutral site matchup hosted by Rhodes College. The 'Roos are now 2-2-1 overall on the year.
After nearly 37 minutes of scoreless action to open things up, Diego Rodriguez put Austin College on top 1-0 and Logan Newman quickly made it a 2-0 game in the 44th minute, and that's how things would stand heading into halftime. Hendrix would quickly even things up in the second half, however, notching two goals in under two minutes between the 56th and 58th minutes to make it a 2-2 game.
The score remained even until the 86th minute, when Xander Spurlock found Escobar for what would prove to be the game-winner. Austin College held a 13-to-11 shot advantage, including 6-to-5 in shots on goal. Juan Rodriguez made three saves for Austin College in the victory.
Austin College will be back in action on Sunday when they take on Rhodes.
