Water Polo Tops Caltech, Falls to Johns Hopkins

Austin College is now 2-2 on the year.
The first half of Austin College's game against Caltech to open the day was quiet offensively, with Austin College scoring the lone goal of the first quarter when Preston Fiala tallied with 1:50 left in the frame. Both teams scored just once in the second quarter, giving the 'Roos a 2-1 lead at halftime, as Sebastian Scheier found the back of the cage with 48 seconds left to give Austin College the edge.
Austin College outscored the Beavers 3-2 in the third period to make it a 5-3 game heading into the fourth, and that's when the 'Roos took full control by putting six shots into the net to pull away and secure the team's second win of the year. Scheier and Owen Altermatt each scored twice, while Matthew Leeworthy, Greyson Gaworecki, Jonah Daley, Jack Stack, Jacob Johnson, Joshua Nelms, and Fiala each tallied once. Jordan Pomier made six blocks and Caleb Maddox had three as the pair split time in goal.
In the final game of the weekend, the No. 7-ranked Blue Jays scored the first five goals of the game to build an early lead before Gaworecki got the 'Roos into the scoring column, but Hopkins finished the quarter with an 8-1 advantage. The Jays outscored the 'Roos 8-0 in the second frame to build a 16-1 edge at halftime, and the margin grew to 23-3 after three quarters of action. Scheier got the lone tally of the frame for Austin College. The 'Roos put three more shots into the back of the cage in the fourth, but seven more goals for the Jays made it a 30-5 final score. Gaworecki finished with a team-high three goals, while Scheier and Nelms scored once each in the loss.
