'Roos Split with Hopkins and Wheaton
NORTON, Mass. - The Austin College men's water polo team split its two games on Sunday to wrap up the MPSF East weekend hosted by Wheaton College. The 'Roos fell 14-6 to perennial Division III power Johns Hopkins in the day's opener, but bounced back with a convincing 26-6 win over the host school to finish the weekend 3-1 and improve to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play.

The 'Roos fell 14-6 to perennial Division III power Johns Hopkins in the day's opener, but bounced back with a convincing 26-6 win over the host school to finish the weekend 3-1 and improve to 7-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
In the first game of the day against Hopkins, the 'Roos found themselves trailing 4-2 after the first and 9-4 at halftime. JHU clamped down defensively after the break, limiting the 'Roos to one goal in each of the final two quarters to hand Austin College the defeat.Carlos Camarena and Greyson Gaworecki each tallied twice for Austin College, and Jack Stack and Owen Altermatt each found the back of the cage once. Altermatt, Stack, and Sebastian Scheier each had an assist, while Jordan Pomier had seven saves while splitting time in goal.
Austin College bounced back in a big way in the team's final game of the weekend, sprinting out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter against Wheaton, and the 'Roos pumped in seven more goals in the second quarter to make it 12-2 at halftime. Seven more goals followed in each of the next two quarters, as Austin College was firing on all cylinders offensively in the victory.
The 'Roos boasted a blistering .650 team shot percentage, while holding Wheaton to a percentage of .231, and Gaworecki had a huge game with five goals, an assist, and a drawn exclusion. Altermatt had a big game as well, firing four shots into the back of the net and adding five steals, and Hudson Seavers-Reale added four goals of his own.
Scheier had three tallies, while Nicholas Bates, Preston Fiala, and Joshua Nelms each scored twice. Justin Gonzalez, Jonah Daley, and Camarena each scored, as did Pomier, who also made a pair of saves in goal. Stack led Austin College with four assists in the win.
