Three From Women's Water Polo Earn All-America
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College women's water polo players Ashley Chand, Bianca Gallegos, and Joslyn Dimitri have each been named honorable mention Division III All-America by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, the organization has announced.
SHERMAN, Texas - Austin College women's water polo players Ashley Chand, Bianca Gallegos, and Joslyn Dimitri have each been named honorable mention Division III All-America by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, the organization has announced.
Chand, a senior center defender from Southlake, was a first team All-CWPA pick this season on her way to earning All-America status after finishing the season as the team's leader in steals, helping to anchor one of the top defensive units in the conference throughout the season. Chand was also stellar offensively, finishing the regular season with 35 goals, including notching four tallies against both Whittier and Carthage.
Gallegos, a junior center from Albuquerque, N.M., was named All-America after earning second team All-CWPA accolades this season. For the year, she led the 'Roos and was among the CWPA leaders with 48 goals. Gallegos scored at least once in every regular season game, and had a season high seven scores in a home win against Penn State Behrend.
Dimitri, a sophomore utility player from Couer d'Alene, Idaho, rounds out the trio of All-America seelections and was another of the top scorers in the CWPA on her way to being named second team All-Conference. Dimitri wrapped up the regular season with 38 goals, and like Gallegos scored at least once in every contest, and had a season high six tallies against PSB. She also had five goals against Occidental.
