'Roo Water Polo Drops Pair in CWPA Play

The opening game saw Carthage take a 3-2 lead after the opening frame despite the 'Roos taking the early lead, with Caroline Armstrong getting the scoring started and Clara Koenig puttint Austin College on top 2-1. Two straight for Carthage gave them the lead heading into the second, and Austin College was held to one tally from Camila Diarte in the frame as they found themselves trailing 5-3 at halftime.
Austin College scored the first goal of the third quarter to cut it to 5-4, but two unanswered for Carthage extended the margin to 7-4, and they would finish the period leading 8-5. Austin College was unable to get the lead below two goals the rest of the way, trimming it to that number three times in the fourth. However, each time the 'Roos threatened to complete the comeback bid, Carthage managed to find the back of the cage to keep things just out of reach. Joslyn Dimitri, Sophia King, and Diarte each scored twice to pace the 'Roos, and Armstrong and Koenig scored once each.
In game two on the day against Macalester, the 'Roos sprinted out to a 3-0 lead and held a 5-1 advantage after the opening period, with Dimitri tallying three times in the quarter. Austin College continued to build on that lead in the second quarter, outscoring Macalester 3-1 in the frame to make it an 8-2 contest at halftime. However, Macalester exploded for seven goals in the third while holding the 'Roos to one tally, cutting it to a 10-9 game heading into the fourth.
Macalester took its first lead of the game midway through the final period, grabbing a 12-11 edge, and after Bianca Gallegos scored with 1:50 left to put Austin College back on top 13-12, Macalester evened things up a minute later to force overtime with the score tied 13 apiece. Macalester scored twice to open up the overtime period, making it a 15-13 game. Dimitri scored with 23 seconds left to cut it to 15-14, but Austin College was unable to complete the comeback.
Gallegos scored six goals to lead Austin College and Dimitri added five, while McKenna Malone, King, and Koenig scored once each.
